What SimpleType itself stores
Your settings, theme, font size, and personal best scores are saved with localStorage, directly in your browser. This never leaves your device, is never sent to a server, and isn't visible to anyone else — including whoever runs this site. Clearing your browser's site data for SimpleType clears all of it. Typing content, results, and everything else about how the test works stays entirely on your device too.
SimpleType does not collect, request, or store: your name, email address, an account, your IP address, your exact location, or anything else that identifies you personally. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in with.
Advertising and cookies
SimpleType shows a small number of advertisements through a third-party advertising service, to help cover the cost of running the site. That service may use cookies or similar technology to show ads based on your visits to this site and others, and may collect information such as your general location, device or browser type, and pages you visit.
SimpleType itself does not control what a third-party ad service collects. If you'd like the specifics for the exact provider currently in use here, get in touch.
Your choices
- Most browsers let you block or clear cookies in their privacy settings.
- You can review or turn off personalized advertising through the ad industry's own opt-out tools, such as optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org.
- Browser extensions that block ads or trackers will also stop most of this.
If you're under 18
SimpleType is used in classrooms, including by students who are minors. The site itself doesn't ask for or store any personal information about you — no name, no email, nothing that identifies you individually. The only data practice to be aware of is the third-party advertising described above, which works the same way it would on most other websites you visit.
Links to other websites
This page links to a couple of outside opt-out tools, and the site elsewhere links to things like font providers. Once you leave SimpleType, this policy no longer applies — those sites have their own privacy practices, worth checking if you're curious.
Changes
This policy may be updated if how the site works changes — for example, if a different advertising provider is used. Any such change would be reflected on this page.
